How does Graphical User Interface Works?

Graphical User Interface (GUI) uses pointer, icons, symbols, windows, menus, and text to operate the software installed on the computer. Users can select these elements on the interface by pressing keys on the keyboard, use the pointer to clicking via the mouse, and tapping on the screen to open apps, type and copy text, move files, etc.

Graphical User Interface is not only for the computers, but it's also working on smartphones, printers, cars, etc.

Types Of Graphical User Interface

Here are two examples of GUI: 1. GNOME and 2. KDE

GNOME: GNOME is easy to use open source GUI for the Unix-like operating system.

KDE: KDE is an international free software community developing open source software. K Desktop Environment is an open source desktop environment used with the Unix workstations.

Features Of Graphical User Interface (GUI)

GUI is not a single software, it's a collection of software that use the computer's graphics abilities to make apps easily usable. GUI using the interface elements such as a pointer, windows, menus, icons to operate the computer or software. There are various types of user interface elements:

GUI Container: Display or hide blocks of information. When a container label is clicked, the section expands to show the content.

Informational Feature: Inform about the status of a task. Examples include notifications of messages, progress bars, tooltips, and pop-up windows.

Menus: List of choices. Menus list all the options available in software and arrange options in local groups.

Windows: Applications and Softwares open in a window and also display information on the screen. Windows can help to move, minimize, maximize, and switch multiple windows.

Input Controls: This element can help a user to select one or multiple choices via checkboxes, drop-down list, toggles, and text fields.

Navigational Feature: Navigational feature can help a user to move place to place in the interface. Navigational features contain sliders, pagination, tags and search boxes.

These Graphical User interfaces (GUI) elements provide visuals about the active task. These elements make it easy for people who learn computers or new software.
