Abandonware is a software or hardware ho is abandoned by its owner or creator. Sometimes Abandonware is might be useful but support is not available for this type of software. Though such software is generally still under copyright but the owner or creator not tracking copyright violations. In most cases, abandonware is not in the public domain, as it has never had its original copyright officially revoked and creator or owner may still own rights.

Problems Because of Abandonware

  • If software becomes abandonware then users can face several problems:
  • If the software is unique then users can not use the alternative of this software.
  • Missing technical support
  • If the software is distributed only in a digital, DRM-locked form or as SaaS, the shutdown of the servers will lead to a public loss of the software.
